There's a lovely December Talking Meme going around, and I was feeling bad because between holidays and travel and my students' theses being due it was just impossible. And then some kind soul started thinking outside the box and said "Why not just do it in January?" and I thought SURE WHY NOT? :)

Pick a date below and give me a topic - anything from fandom related (specific fandoms, characters, pairings, episodes, etc.) to RL to whatever else you want, and I promise to ramble/rant/rave/whathaveyou on the appointed day. *g*

They will probably be brief, or not, depending on the subject. Also, I reserve the right to decline prompts that I don't feel equipped to meet.

I haven't been posting much here but fic for ages, so I'd love the excuse to do some meta or even to just blither on about my life a bit!

Batman/Superman 4:  Written by Greg PAK;  art by Jae LEE

Greg Pak's first arc on the new Batman/Superman drops Clark and Bruce into Earth-2, where they meet versions of themselves who are good friends.  In this final issue of the arc, we discover that there's some kind of crystal superweapon that the government has constructed to fight their Superman and Batman.  Earth-2 Superman and Batman want to destroy the crystal, but Kaliyo, the trickster goddess who has sent "our" Bruce and Clark there, has said that without the weapon, they'll never defeat Darkseid when he comes to destroy their world.  And so we reach a confrontation:

He doesn't even FLY. He HOPS. )

Lex Luthor is based, not the least bit subtly, on Vince McMahon Jr., the owner of World Wrestling Entertainment.

Vince McMahon is a larger-than-life person (character?)--utterly titanic, charismatic, ruthless, indeed a megalomaniac. He is, in fact, likely more villainous than the AU version of Luthor.

Things both McMahon and Luthor are going to be accused of: criminal negligence.

Things McMahon has been accused of that Luthor is NOT going to be accused of: sexual harassment, sexual assault, encouraging steroid and painkiller abuse that shortened the lives of his workers, allowing gay writers to prey on young wrestlers (in all cases he was either found not guilty or settled out of court). Mind you, McMahon would shrug and say such allegations are the price of power and fame.

He's also famous for pretty much single-handedly destroying the old "territory" system of wrestling, creating a near-monolithic entity in the WWE. He inherited the northeastern territory from his father, but through a combination of canny marketing and borderline-unethical business dealings, slowly drove nearly everyone else out of business.

While he runs the company, he also "plays a character" of the Chairman of the Board, Vince McMahon--an over-the-top megalomaniac villain who abuses and torments his employees. Here's his amazing entrance theme:

I've slipped up and called Lex Vince and vice versa when discussing them with my beta. )
