Batman/Superman 4:  Written by Greg PAK;  art by Jae LEE

Greg Pak's first arc on the new Batman/Superman drops Clark and Bruce into Earth-2, where they meet versions of themselves who are good friends.  In this final issue of the arc, we discover that there's some kind of crystal superweapon that the government has constructed to fight their Superman and Batman.  Earth-2 Superman and Batman want to destroy the crystal, but Kaliyo, the trickster goddess who has sent "our" Bruce and Clark there, has said that without the weapon, they'll never defeat Darkseid when he comes to destroy their world.  And so we reach a confrontation:

God, how cute is that first team-up moment, where even though they don't like each other, they can still read each other and fight together? Even Earth-2 Superman thinks it's cute.

In the ensuing fight, the government activates the crystal and it puts Lois and Selina (who are flying a jet) in danger.  Our Superman must hop leap to save them, but he's not sure he can do it--he's never jumped so far.

Earth-2 Superman destroys the weapon while Earth-1 Superman saves Lois and Selina.  Meanwhile, Wonder Woman is fighting Kaliyo, but the destruction of the weapon brings that to an end:

I'll spare you the really long meta on this, but in short:  indeed, we know from the rest of DC continuity Earth-2's Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman all die when Darkseid invades, sacrificing themselves to save the world.  "Our" Clark and Bruce are "ruthless, raw, and dangerous," so their world does survive.  This doesn't seem a terribly ringing endorsement from Pak, more a "well, this is what I've got to work with in the rebooted universe," so...yeah.

Kaliyo mindwipes everyone, so the Star Trek-style difficulty of Clark and Bruce's friendship development being short-circuited is averted, and the next day, Clark goes back to the Gotham playground where he first met Bruce.  You may remember they met while watching a little kid getting bullied--Bruce didn't interfere, Clark did, but the bullied child didn't appreciate his help and flipped him off.  This time:

He doesn't interfere this time, Zack does indeed break the kid's nose, then flips the bully off as he runs away.  The final page closes up the arc:

So...yeah.  We'll see where Pak goes with this.  At the very least, I feel comfortable that he can write good snarky banter.
