Character A is a snarky, dark-haired teen with tactile telekenesis.
Character B is a sweet-tempered, light-haired pre-teen without tactile telekenesis.
Character C is a masked, snarky, dark-haired teenager with tactile telekenesis.

Would you lay odds on Character C being A or B under the mask?

Well, DC sez: "It's Character B! He's been randomly aged, his hair has turned black, and he's developed a snarky temperament and tactile telekenesis! Aren't you surprised?"

Oh DC, "surprised" doesn't even begin to cover my reaction.

That's just dirty pool, DC. Now I refuse to suspend my disbelief at all.

I know, what? As far as I know Chris is just Ursa and Zod's child, where did the TTK come from??

I feel like they did Chris a pretty big disservice here as well. He's not my favorite character, but I'd have been more likely to give him a chance if they hadn't done this crazy bait and switch stuff...

Chris isn't one of my favorite characters, but make him himself, even magically aged, and I might have been willing to give him a chance. But tease us for a month with every clue pointing to Kon and then yanking the rug out like that...that's just rude. You can do any kind of surprise that way! So confused. Unwilling to commit to reading Action now, although I like Mon-El over in Superman so I'll keep going with that one. If they'd given Chris his own personality and look and stuff, sure! I'd be happy to see him meeting Tim again and seeing if sparks flew now that he's the same age! But I don't want a rip-off of Kon... :(

Wait. What? I second skund's motion of reading Marvel Adventures. *buries nose in Marvel Adventures: The Avengers #1, and plots buying #2* Also, I have no idea who A, B, and C are in context, as I am not up to date with that particular branch of canon right now, but that is very WTF of them. Also, if I see a dark-haired teen with tactile telekinesis in my DC, I want it to be Kon-El, end of story. *ships Kon/Tim, and just plain likes Kon as a character*

I know who A and B are. *loves the public library's large selection of comics and scans_daily (R.I.P.)* C is the one from what I'm not caught up on. And now it makes even less sense in context. Character A should be C, although I have no problem with B being in canon - just not with soap-opera aging and those sorts of related plot holes. *is now even more confused* *buries self in MA:A comic and clexy Smallvile fanfic to save sanity*

I know it was so stupid I could have totally been ok if Nightwing wasn't Kon (because it was obvious it wasn't going to be him with what's happening in Blackest Night), heck even Van-Zee would have been a better option.

Also why couldn't they keep Character B as a kid, I liked Super munchkin and I wanted him to team up with Batbrat and have kid adventures.

Also the person who turned out to be Flamebird was stupid too, everyone expected her to be Superwoman (it would have made more sense) I mean she isn't even blonde and Flamebird was blonde!

Better not make Superwoman Alura (or an illegitimate El kid) or I will be pissed.

I know! I was kind of like, "Well, now I can think about Chris/Tim..." but darn it, Tim already has his Super. I don't think he's going to warm to someone showing up who seems so much like Kon and isn't...

I'm curious, why would it piss you off if it's Alura? I'm guessing she has some kind of split-personality thing going on due to Kryptonite poisoning? Though if it is her I think the writing is off, because she just didn't interact with Kara like an older woman, more like a person of the same age. Maybe she, uh, doesn't know she's Superwoman? This all sounds pretty lame, doesn't it?

You nailed it, it sounds pretty lame I mean you have interesting concept and good mysteries there but I guess at this point no matter who you make Superwoman it's going to be disappointing or confusing.

Oh and I wasn't necessarily thinking about Tim, more like Damien since he is a brat and I thought that having a Super buddy who is invulnerable to his lashing out and who's well-behaved
might be a positive influence on him.

Tim already has his Super. I don't think he's going to warm to someone showing up who seems so much like Kon and isn't...

Well he already interacted with Chris, it was the issue where Batman make shim the Iron Pig watch that locks Chris' powers so he can't use them. Tim was nice to him and Chris got a little hero worship for him since he was a human without powers who could do all sorts of acrobatics... Late ron when the Phantom Zone is sucking him back Chris thanks Clark for all he did for him and tells him something along the lines off "Hey I had fun, And I got to meet Robin"

Oh, I knew you meant Damian! I just meant that now that he seems to be Tim's age I'd feel weird seeing him with Damian...although Chris's actual age is totally confusing (I suppose a great deal like Kon and Bart, for that matter!)

I saw some of those scans, and Chris's hero-worship for Tim would be really cool to play on. If Chris kept his original personality (and maybe he'll become more clearly Chris-like now that they've revealed who he is) it would be cool to see. As he is, though...I can't see Tim being interested in another dark-haired snarky Kryptonian with TTK, lol. I mean, it might be kind of cool to see Chris win him over...

Bascially, Chris provides some interesting possibilities for Super/Bat junior pairings, but they're problematic as well. I'll be curious to see if fandom picks him up in any organized way...

Do you think maybe someone was planning on it being Kon, and at the last minute told it wasn't? I wouldn't credit such poor planning, except for the whole "We're going to kill Dick--no, no, let's make it Kon!" thing in Infinite Crisis, which always seemed very, very last-minute to me...

Absolutely. At last year's Wizard LA convention I sat in a panel with Jimmy Palmiotti, one of the writers of Countdown, who said much of the plot and reveals were mandated by editors and often changed with time. For example, the idea of our Jason being from Earth-2 wasn't picked up again. Who knows, maybe editorial decided Kon would be a better Black Lantern for the upcoming Green Lantern event than as part of the Superman series. Darn! If Wizard LA wasn't postponed this weekend, I would have asked that question to James Robinson who's currently writing SUperman.

Getting back into comics that's been one of the things that's surprised me the most--how little control writers have over their own stories, in some ways. Like Willingham starting to write Steph and being told, "Oh, by the way, she's going to die in a few months," so deciding to make her Robin kind of out of spite. It would be a real pain to work under those conditions--I assume some people have more freedom, but you'd have to be one of the biggest names to dictate the development to DC rather than vice versa.

I've ruled out Nightwing being Kon ever since Adventure Comics, but still.

*facepalm* I even read that, but somehow...my brain just insisted that since this had to be Kon, then maybe he could be Nightwing and a Black Lantern at the same time? My brain fail, let me show you it. :(

I wasn't a big fan of Chris, mostly because...well, for various reasons I don't like the idea of Kal raising a child with Lois. It leads to way too many cutesy plots and "boy hostage" situations, IMHO. So in some ways I would almost like him being aged up, but...why make him snarky and sarcastic while you're doing it? Let him keep his own personality... we don't need a fake copy of Kon, Chris is his own character.

Damian just confuses me. I can only assume the Batclan has some weird sense of genetic loyalty to Bruce, which annoys the hell out of me. Just because he has Wayne DNA doesn't mean he gets to be Robin.

*sigh* I am breaking my general rule not to talk about things I hate in comics! I shall try to post something I liked soon as penance. :) Mon-El, I'm liking Mon-El quite a bit, actually.

The influx of child characters after OYL (Sin, Chris, Helena, Damian, Jai & Iris) was... fascinating, and I took an instant liking to all of them (with the exception of Damian of course). I have to admit that I'm a sucker for superhero moms and dads, so the cutesy moments were right up my alley. :p Still, it amused me that only Jai & Iris stayed till the end, the rest all got sent away with faked deaths and whatnots.

Damian just confuses me. I can only assume the Batclan has some weird sense of genetic loyalty to Bruce, which annoys the hell out of me. Just because he has Wayne DNA doesn't mean he gets to be Robin.

The character himself really doesn't help much, the constant brattiness is what grated on me the most. I can even wank the whole thing if he had been raised just like most kids, but the fact that they told us he was trained with the League of Assassins since birth? JUST NO.

It's a little surprising how few superhero parents there are, isn't it? I wasn't thrilled to see all those kids tacked in, but then I was a lot MORE annoyed when so many almost immediately got sent away! And I note that of the five, the kids that stayed are mostly male (no boys got canned, and 2/3 of the girls did) and all of them linked to the male superheroes. Gr.

TBH I actually think Helena and Sin got the better end of the deal compared to boys, heh. At least we know they're actually safe out there somewhere. I'm still sad over the Flash being canceled, but at least no one had to die. And it's funny how in the very same issue NW was revealed as Chris, they showed him dying at the end.

lol, I don't actually know if he's actually going to die. :p But a gun was pointing at his head at the end of the issue (there were orders from his own parents to kill both him and Thara). And he was already in a bad shape -- apparently every time he undergoes the growth spurts, there's a lot of pain involved to the point he'd lose consciousness for a while.
