Ice Hotel!

I was reading a book about unusual hotels, and came to this one: Icehotel, a hotel built entirely of snow and ice in the Swedish Arctic. It's sculpted by artists every winter, and in the spring is allowed to melt away again. The insulating snow keeps the rooms at a balmy -5 degrees C. no matter how cold it gets outside (and it gets a lot colder!)

I think it's pretty obvious what the appeal of Icehotel is for me (click on pictures for the room's web page):

(the one above is probably my favorite, not only for its look but because it's named the "Yin/Yang Suite").

So whatta ya say?  Superman Fan Conference at the Icehotel in 2011?  :D

Haha. There are cave hotels too, in Mexico I believe. How about a Batman conference there? Although the ice hotel is still more interesting.

That last one really screams Fortress of Solitude.

This and the Crystal Cave in Mexico just fascinates me I mean there's something serene and relaxing being around a bunch of crystals, I think if I ever become rich I would make a room in my mansion a replica of the Fortress (and have my basement become the Batcave XD).

What memories your post has brought back! I have stayed overnight in the Ice Hotel in Quebec City - where it is of course called the Hôtel de Glace (http://www.icehotel-canada.com/). It is not an experience I will soon forget, especially sleeping on those animal-skin covered ice beds! I was okay, up until the point that I had to get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night...

We have one in Quebec every year, it's neat. Hoping to spend the night one of these years, but it's expensive. We brought Maya, my host-sister, when she was in the country, and she was tripping out.

XD I have never thought of it as a Fortress of Solitude- Dude!

That is so awesome...

I love that... I'm going to have to download all the pictures, it brings up images of surprising luxury in the arctic.

Thanks so much for posting those, not sure it gives me a plot bunny or not, but I do like the idea of them.

My dad was involved for years in the ice harvest for Ice Alaska. They have a webcam up if you want to see the carvings.

Also, the world's only year-round ice museum!
