I’m sure it’s even more splendid than Bree.”

Oh you are in for a surprise...

“Will you walk with me a moment?” she asked

Oh now she'll explain about the succession and Thorin'S possibel future!

She walked in a few paces, then sank to her knees, gazing to the east. “Muranu!” she called out, placing her hands on her heart. “I must return to my land. May your soul find peace where it has gone.” She wiped her eyes. “I shall tell my sons of your bravery,” she finished softly, and Bilbo felt the unspoken if they yet live lie heavy at the end of it.

I have been blind and too wrapped up in my happiness for Thorin and Bilbo. This was such a moving scene! I completely trust you not to have killed Fíli and Kíli.

“I’m only going because you are a close personal friend of mine, sonny,”
she said, shaking her staff at Aragorn.

Awww. LOL.

Thorin suspected he realized it full well.

They work so well together!

The first night on the road Thorin found silver in Bilbo’s hair, appearing there almost overnight like sudden snow.

Oh no!

“You’ve had lovely silver in your hair for decades,”

I think Thorin's hair is my ONE RING. My weakness, my temptation, my desire. NYARGH.

“It’s a bit grander than Bree,”

Understatement of the Age. It's in all histories. And in every city guide to Minas Tirith. And in the Hobbit-guide to Minas Tirith.

Thorin snorted to himself at that mis-statement,

*pets him*

Finally! Denethor is back!

Finduilas looked up, and Thorin blinked--from the way Denethor had spoken of her, he had rather expected her to be a great beauty rather than a rather plain sparrow of a woman. Then she smiled at the party, and Thorin felt his breath catch, and wondered no more at Denethor’s rapturous descriptions.

It is so true how a smile can transform a face!

“You must call me merely Arwen, for I am sure we shall be great friends, just as our betrothed ones are.” Denethor attempted to look annoyed at this, but couldn’t quite manage it as he beamed at his beloved.

I am sure they shall be! And I believe Finduilas will make a great many drawings of Arwen – I am not sure she had a chance to draw an elf before!

“But with you within it, its beauty is increased a hundredfold.”

Oh the charmer! I didn't know he had it in him!

“I find that I wish to live nearer the sea, where we can hear the
sound of the waves and the cries of the sea-birds as we raise our children

I reckon Finduilas had quite a hand in this decision. Just to imagine being away from the sea as an artist! Water is the most challenging and wonderful of subjects. (and having grown up near water myself – I always knew I would never trade that for a place without water nearby)

Théoden cut him off impatiently. “Pelargir is twice as far from Edoras as Osgiliath! You would require me to be even more inconvenienced in order to visit you--for visit you I shall, and there is nothing you can say about it!”

Poor Théoden. He might try to ask Gandalf where he gets those eagles... On the other hand, he'd never miss the opportunity to parade his loveliest horse in front of Denethor.

“I like him,” said Finduilas, to Denethor’s horror.

And thus a new friendship of the ages was formed.

we shall have a special boat made that will carry you down the Anduin to Pelargir in all comfort and ease. And I promise that we shall in turn often travel to Edoras, for I have heard it is a beauteous city of great majesty and hospitality.”

Yes, that works too. Do horses go on boats? They'd better! And to hear Théoden's words to Denethor reflected back at him but make him so happy.

the royal couple of Pelargir and their sons rode them always when they traveled to Edoras.

YAY! What a nice glimpse into the future!

“But as for me, I thank you most for bringing Denethor back to me and giving us a future together.”

Priorities. Straight. Nuff said.

admiring the gardens

I know! Bilbo will write a History of Middle Earths Gardens! After he has completed the Red Book of course. That would be something! He can have Saynshar, Ent Gardens, The Shire of course at the start, as the foundation – with all the basics of gardening and introducing the different types: flower, vegetable, etc. and as the foil against which all other gardens are compared. And then! In the middle of the book in a beautiful two-page coloured illustration, an homage to the most special and wondrous of all the gardens in Middle Earth: The Garden of Erebor! With only a tiny part of the whole story of it, because during his life times Bilbo would be loathe to put their relationship in a book in that much detail, I think. And then Arwen and Legolas and indeed Thorin(!) will suggest that he could include a chapter on Yavanna and the making of the world and the very first gardens, and gardens of Valinor. And this book will be cherished and painstakingly copied by hand by Elvish scribes and reside in Rivendell, and Minas Tirith and Saynshar, and Edoras – a standard work for the ages to come. And elves will marvel and whisper in hushed surprise at the fact of the existence of The Garden of Erebor. And that garden will become a symbol through the ages – even if the whole story behind it is now largely forgotten – except for some elves who still remember. The existence of Ent-wives is another fact that makes that book a must-have and will mean the beginning of the retelling of the lore of Ents.
