It was such a relief to get them more or less back on the same page I can imagine. After that harsh ending...
We're entering another happy time in the series YAY!!
Bilbo felt shameful tears rising in his eyes. To die so far from home, unmourned and forgotten! But he dashed them away and unsheathed his own knife, raising it in his shaking hands.
The secret courage of hobbits! Poor Bilbo though, thinking he'd die soon.
Then he added at the top of his lungs in Khuzdul: "{Suckers of goblin dick!}"
I LOVE that he got to use his Khuzdul oaths in an appropriate situation! And Thorin's face must have been priceless!
The appearance of the Rangers was certainly a surprise! Were they mentioned in the Silmarillion? Also, yay for kickass women! I also love the thought of Thorin having travelled with the Rangers for a while.
"--will there be food?"
Focusing on the essentials like a true hobbit.
although Thorin privately thought the cooking was not as good as Bilbo's.
SUPERFLAIL! But then you dash my hopes again with the next sentence...obstinate Thorin!
Although I do feel for him, Urgency clawed at him like vertigo: to have come so far, to have pushed himself and his people so brutally, only to be thwarted! [...]but when he considered that he might have dragged the halfling to the wastes and danger of Angmar for naught.. protective impulses, yay!
YAY for Gandalf! "Our paths cross once more." Will you tell us when and how they met the first time? That should have been interesting, especially with scholar Thorin! And Gandalf is right to be surprised at Bilbo's presence! He could not have foreseen meddling authors bringing Bilbo to Thorin before Mithrandir himself had the idea, hehe!
"Excuse me, sir," he murmured, "But I was wondering...are you an elf?"
Oh if you could have heard my dolphin noises... Finally he gets to meet an elf, I'm so happy for him!
"Rock-headed dwarves and your secrets.
I think it's great someone else is giving the dwarves a talking to! (and providing Thorin with counsel against his obsessive tendencies)
"Then we shall travel with you to Rivendell," said Thorin.
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!
"Elrond of Rivendell is one of the few beings in Middle Earth who might know of the properties of this glass and could confirm its power,"
True. And I think only this Thorin would admit this in front of other dwarves...
"She's a fine lass, boy, but there's no time for such things now."
Fíli spluttered something incoherent and Kíli snickered until his brother hit him on the head.
Oh Fíli... :-)
"Frying pan, tinderbox, lemon drops, viola tea,"
In all the excitement I had completely forgotten they were still there! Hmm, probably they are going to prove useful in the future like the spun sugar animals. Or they could be a gift to the elves in Rivendell...I bet they'd love viola tea!
For I have an intuition, a premonition I might almost call it, that Bilbo Baggins is crucial to the success of your mission.
Yes, Thorin listen up! No overprotective (or reasonably protective) behaviour!
I have no right to ask anything more of him
True. But you can't keep him from joining you voluntarily! HA!
"It will not be the first," Thorin said, his voice bleak,
(no subject)

I can't wait for Bilbo to make it all better.
Oh and the ending, the ending! :-DDDDD
