It is hard to imagine, isn't it? :) I hadn't realized it until I was writing, but I love the idea of Thorin being drawn to the sea...

Ah, thanks for that hint. I took out my illustration idea again and still need to find a style for the furniture in Fornost. This gives me a direction to look for. I know next to nothing about Fornost, still need to do some research.
There's very, very little in Tolkien about it! It was a later city of the Numenoreans, so it was built more when they were drunk with power--and then it fell iin the hands of the Witch-King for a long time, so it's been rebuilt a bit in Angmarian style, I think...
This is what I like about Bilbo. He will never act the martyr or feel sorry for himself too long. Quite admirable.
One of the things I love about Bilbo (something Thorin comments on later) is that he'll complain about all the little things, but when things actually get tough, he grits his teeth and doesn't complain at all.
Your whole description of Annuminas sounds so lovely, I keep getting images and colours in my mind.
I spent a lot of time wandering around there in Lord of the Rings Online getting ready to write it, and it really is beautiful, they did a great job with it.

Thorin's relationship with Bilbo's cooking has, somewhat to my surprise, become a constant running theme in this story. It really shows the development of his attitude toward Bilbo himself, and so I've had a lot of fun with it...
