Because it often feels like the execs have forgotten all about friendship, heroism, sacrifice and the greater good (as well as the bombasticity of a truly epic villain).
This has been driving me crazy with canon lately, the number of people who can write a good friendship seems so very low (do comic book writers not have friends? This makes me sad to contemplate!) DC especially seems so eager to copy certain things about Marvel (flawed heroes, bickering and such) that I think work well over there, but they seem to have forgotten how to work heroism into the mix as well. Frustrating.
