Or are they just more conscious about it, eh?

‘There’s only one bed’, ‘fake dating’ and ‘opposites attract’: how tropes took over romance

You know, I'm a lot happier about engaging with the work of someone who's aware of the tropes they're playing with and maybe riffing around with them, and that there is maybe a tradition? - rather than somebody who thinks they're doing something Rad and New and boy, is it Same Old Same Old.

(And just let's not go to Male Midlife Crisis novel....)

Maybe not so much in romance genre, but have I not whinged on mightily about crime fiction and the trope of the hawkshaw with complicated emotional backstory, substance abuse issues, difficulties with The Hierarchy, etc etc?

And honestly, while we are on crime fiction, can anyone tell me, with any plausible accuracy, how many works there are in which, literally, The Butler Actually Did It? Because whoah, massive cliche that I find it hard to match with my own reading. Though admittedly, over the years I have been reading, and some of that was very forgettable mysteries, maybe I have just elided from memory a whole swathe of murderous butlers.

Oh my god it's nominations! (Ignore how the works due deadline has appeared in the distance, we've got this!)

See the nominations rules here. There should be no major changes from last year, but please take a gander to refresh yourselves on safety fandoms, how we would like nominations to be formatted, etc. Any incorrectly formatted nominations made through the tagset will be rejected without query and will have to be renominated through the google form.

We have two options for nominations this year! The google form which should work exactly like last year's. Please do not put any kind of serious personally identifying information such as emails or bank accounts or anything else you wouldn't want attached to your nominations into the google form since everyone will be able to see approved nominations and the pseuds attached to those.

You can also nominate at the tagset. BUT - please remember all safety fandoms ought to be nominated through the form so tagmods can check it for safety status!

See a list of the sheet approved nominations (these will be added to the tagset around once every day at least) here.

Did I get any links wrong? Do you have other questions? Did the tagset somehow eat your nominations? Feel free to email at highadrenalinemod@gmail.com.

 Title: cranes in the sky
Author:girlwritesthings
Fandom: The Pitt
Character/Pairing:  Heather Collins (refers to Robby/Collins, but is not really a Collins/Robby fic)
Rating/Warning(s): not rated. content warnings for pregnancy loss, abortion, adoption
Word Count: 4344
Summary:   Heather Collins' life has been a lesson in wanting.
Reccer's Notes:  For Heather, I wanted "letting go" to be the closure to be her story the way the show couldn't give us (and from the female perspective - not some male intern talking to a dude while another dude listened in, because ... really.) This fic is a character study that follows Heather from the age of 7 to when she goes to Portland again after Season 1. It is a series of "letting go," aka - having is not so pleasant as wanting while Heather learns to let go of disappointments. And in the end, when you get what you actually need (and wanted), all those losses were worth the struggle.

Day 14 Theme - Letting Go

Feb. 14th, 2026 07:02 am
cmk418: (furiosa2)
[personal profile] cmk418 posting in [community profile] halfamoon
Today's theme is Letting Go.

Here are some ideas to get you started: She has come to the end of the road with something- a deeply-held belief, a job, a relationship, maybe even her life. How does she (or does she) finally find the courage to let go? What has changed to make this letting go even possible, and how does she change after?

Just go wherever the Muse takes you. If this prompt doesn't speak to you, feel free to share something that does. You can post in a separate entry or as a comment to this post.

***This is the last day of the fest, so be sure to get all of your contributions in. If you're playing catch up, the theme list is posted at the top of the page. If you are posting for multiple days, please post each day's contribution in a separate entry. HalfaMoon will run until the “That's a Wrap” post goes up which will be sometime around 3pm CST tomorrow so you'll have a bit of time to finish things up.***
