I foresee mosquitoes, rusty water, drippy ceilings and mold. Because if Santa Prisca's an actual paradise resort? Wrestling types would NEVER get to see it. That aside from, whatever poverty is going on even among those lucky enough to work at a resort....

Ok, as a Caribbean girl - I just might be judgy, even if I don't necessarily WANT to be, on this part. Cause the conversations I got into with people doing PoTC and treating the islands like Florida (if I was LUCKY) - you don't want to know.

Ah! Please be judgy on this one! Santa Prisca is--in the comics--the worst sort of stereotype, of course, but I'd like those aspects to be mostly kayfabe in this version, with Bane playing it up a lot, and his family being basically like the Colóns of Puerto Rico. From my limited outsider experience in the Caribbean and Pacific islands, I suspect Clark and Bruce would be really uncomfortable with the way tourists are corralled into carefully controlled resort areas and shielded from the realities of life. I traveled to Palau some time ago and was very struck with that tension--and then the extra tension of tourists wanting to see "the real Palau," which in some ways seemed worse because it turned peoples' actual lives and homes into "quaint photo opps." Growing up in Maine I experienced a little of that (the cutesy Potemkin villages of shops constructed to funnel tourists away from the trailer parks and poverty), but without so much of the extra racial tensions.

All of which is a very long sidetrack to say that on the whole, Santa Prisca will stay all business and have very little "sipping Mai Tais on the white sand beach" to it. But I also don't want to do "it was actually a hellhole of poverty," because ugh. Resort places, like wrestling, have a very complicated kayfabe/reality situation!

A little, disappointed that this Barb if 'post' vague 'back problem'. I saw her and got all excited at pondering what happens that she ends up in a wheelchair and what an amazing manager she'd make, and wheelchair tricks on camera inspiring young kids with injuries and it's gonna be current DC handwave - no wheelchair Barb.

Oh, these are some really good points, and I'm probably going to be forced to grimace and admit a missed opportunity here. I just...really dreaded having everyone constantly worry about when she was going to get injured and if Joker was going to do it! Because Joker is going to be a prima donna and a jerk at times (well, most of the time), but he's never going to tip over into truly unhinged and evil--if he's coming off that way too much, I definitely need to tone it down a bit, so thanks for the nudge there as well.

Oooh, so much to chew over now as I prepare to send them off to meet Bane. Thank you, thank you, I never want to run on autopilot on this one. :)
