The self control involved doesn't seem abnormal to me at all. I'm peeking in my brain now and trying to figure out if other people just DON'T sober up when something reminds them of something serious.
Well, yes I think everyone would have stopped laughing at some point, but the thing I like here about Bruce is his razor sharp attention in every moment. So the important word for me in there was "abrupt". That ability of the sudden switch and the implied focus is the thing that turns me on every time. :-)

I agree. The helplessness is the defining thing in that sort of situation, even if his parents still lived. I think in that case it would make him more anxious, fearing that anytime something similar could happen again...
