I'm not sure exactly how Crane found his way to Ohio from Gotham, but after the invasion I assume people got scattered about quite a bit and he wanted someplace quiet to, uh, work...
I took a crazy amount of pleasure in imagining them camping out, lol. In this universe it's just really nice to imagine them with a little quiet time with no one around...
