Well it has got a hobbit in it, so it's inevitable. And food is very important during such an adventure to keep the group's spirits up! (I speak from hiking experience)

I did! The fact that there's only about one dwarf woman per nine or so dwarf men is endlessly fascinating/annoying to me (I don't think such a society could work! How does it work?) so I'm always wondering how they get around things like people being so unlikely to actually have an opposite-sex mate...

It is a great idea then! Yes it would be a strange society... hmm. The few women would have to have a lot of children, too.
Another solution to the mate-problem I have seen in fic is that male homosexual couples are a valid option in dwarf society.

Ahhh, Thorin killed me in this chapter, because I empathize so much with the desire to distance yourself in preparation for that person's inevitable leaving, lol...

YES. I just wanted to hug him and tell him everything was going to be alright (at least in this fic).
