""There isn't much to tell, aunt. We--I--had a good trip. The spa was...very relaxing.""
Um ... Really (I know but man what kind of spas offer beat your slave type trip; I wouldn't want to know about)? Have they got a cover story for that? Or does Kal just get red?
"The brilliant blue flowers nodded slightly in the breeze. He felt the sudden urge to pick one, to take the cerulean flower and put it behind Bruce's ear, just to watch Bruce's eyes roll in annoyance and hear him scoff."
Hee. I love that impulse. Poor Bruce with the flowers.
"But Bruce was seated at a cushion at his feet, and if Kal did anything so rash as tuck a flower behind his ear, he would merely cast his eyes down demurely. No insults, no gibes, just sweetness and docility."
Yeh. Bummer.
"The healing bruises on Bruce's face were darker than the blue of the flowers."
Poor boys. What was Alfred's reaction? How much does he know?
"Zor cocked his head and looked at Kal in silence for a while. "You're still sulking about the marriage, aren't you?""
They are so bloody lucky here.
"An eloquent shrug. "Does it matter?""
I love how you show a lack of concern about people as individuals.
""Of course," said Kal. "Maybe I'll even learn her name.""
Hee.
"As he waited for his uncle's move, he let his hand rest on Bruce's head, letting dark hair slip between his fingers, caressing. He felt more than heard Bruce's small sigh at the touch, a tiny exhalation; the fingers tightened on his thigh briefly."
Eeeeeee! I'd quote all of the paragraph but it was rather big (still is). I just want to say I love it. And it obviously is an advantage of their positions here (as opposed to the "human" society). Although more of a disadvantagee too (oppressor and oppressed i.e. in theory). By that I mean they are allowed to touch each other for comfort in the name of slave and master. But don't allow that as human and "human" (because of the reality of one of them). So silly but understandable.
"He shifted one of his stones across the board and Zor-El looked at it for a long time. He sat back in his chair slowly. "You win," he said."
Hee. So the secret of winning is mutual touching with Bruce? Love it. If only everything was doable that way.
""He came to me," Kara whispered, as if she'd never spoken of it to anyone. "He heard my despair, my confusion, and rage and hope, and he came to me. He told me that I wasn't alone.""
Eeeeeee! Hugs Zhon/J'onn and Kara. Although you're making me wish Kryptonians had some sort of bond so Kal and Bruce could be that close (in touch with one another).
"Bruce was asleep on the floor at the foot of the bed, curled up in a pile of blankets."
OK they still don't trust each other to not seep molest the other? Especially Bruce? I mean can't he get them together in the name of pragmatism or what? If they had to they could sleep with their heads at the opposite ends of the bed. I did that as a child with sleepovers (with other same sex children; totally innocently). Or wrap one of them in a sheet like a mummy with their head uncovered. I do assume Kal doesn't kick 'cos that could be dangerous. Silly men.
"Her jaw tightened, and she reached out, placed cool fingers along the side of his face. "Damn you," she whispered."
Must admit I loved that conversation. For the past and the present. Plus the hinted at potential exile he faces for doing the right thing.
""Don't say that." Bruce pried the glasses free and looked at them for a long time, opening and closing them, the temples making small clicking noises. "You kept them.""
Eeeeeee!
"Bruce leaned forward, close and then closer, and slipped the glasses onto Kal's face. "He's here," Bruce said. "We're both here.""
Hugs them both but especially Kal/Clark.
"After a moment, warm fingers rested on it, light but sure."
Eeeeeee! I love the touching.
"I won't fail you, he thought, unsure if he meant Bruce or the earth itself.
I won't fail."
Hugs Kal. I know you won't. Plus luckily there's no 900 year old Jedi with a cave tainted with the Dark Side of the Force to test you. :P
